interesting school projects

School has been keeping me busy lately, but I have been having fun and learning through my studies.
In my Communication Research class I am working on an interesting project.  I am doing a Participant Observation at my work, The Bistro at Seville.
With this project, I am observing tipping habits of my customers. I am also studying what I can do to increase the percentage of my tip.
A couple things that I have tried or will try include:
  1. leaving a smiley face on the ticket
  2. using the customer’s name as I thank them
  3. dropping mints on their table with their ticket
  4. extra compliments
This project has been quite interesting and enjoyable.  In addition to the study we have to blog about our thoughts and comment about the experiences. You can see my study blog at caitiebee.wordpress.com

Another class that includes a beneficial assignment is Publications Workshop.
In this class we get the privilege to write for the ORU Communication Arts Alumni Magazine, The Communique.  I just completed my first phone interview with Chad Schockely who is an alum that we are featuring.
The interview went great. I am so excited to write this story, and then be a published writer! After the magazine is published, I will post a link to the magazine.
Oh, btw! I’m Editor in Chief of the magazine! I’ve been busy so far, placing feature stories that were written over the summer by students in the summer session of Publications Workshop.
